    All our Italy tours provide insider experiences and this journey through Piedmont and Cinque Terre is our signature example of going completely off the beaten track. Taste with the wine makers, learn the ancient recipes, savor magnificent hotels, and take a journey through the aromas and architecture of Italia’s past. The day to day itinerary below is just an example of where this journey could take you.

    Day 1 – Arrival to the Unesco hills

    Pick-up at Malpensa airport or Milan train station and transfer to the Unesco World Heritage Langhe Monferrato Roero hills.

    Check-in at the selected charming accommodation facility and relax.

    Transfer for dinner in a characteristic restaurant to taste a local menu and overnight stay.

     

    Day 2 – Amazing tastes: cheese, hazelnuts and special cooking class

    Breakfast buffet.

    Meeting with the driver and the English-speaking guide and departure to discover the area of Alta Langa, where the landscape becomes wilder thanks to woods and hazelnut groves.

    Guided visit to a small cheese producer with tasting.

    Lunch in a local osteria and then visit to a small farm producing hazelnuts: from the grove to the laboratory with final tasting. Back to the accommodation and relax.

    Cookery lesson on ‘the cuisine of the Langhe’ to learn how to prepare a complete traditional menu based on local recipes: the dishes prepared during the lesson will then be tasted afterwards at dinner, paired with local wines. Overnight stay.

     

    Day 3 – Barolo Wine area

    Breakfast buffet. Meeting with the driver and the English-speaking guide and departure to discover the growing area of Barolo, one of the most highly-prized wines in the world, starting from Barolo, the town from which the King of Wines and Wine of Kings gets its name for a stroll in the centre.

    Time to explore the charming villages of the area, visiting a prestigious Barolo wine cellar with tasting.

    Lunch free and visit of Grinzane Cavour Castle, its Country Life Museum, and the Regional Enoteca with traditional wines carefully selected by the masters of the ‘Order of the Knights of the Truffle and Wines’.   Back to the accommodation – The driver and the guide leave.

    Transfer for dinner in a characteristic restaurant and overnight stay.

     

    Day 4 – Barbaresco Wine area

    Breakfast buffet. Meeting with the driver and the English-speaking guide and departure to discover the growing area of Barbaresco, the second great wine in Piedmont, starting from homonymous town.

    Time to explore the charming villages of the area (such as Nevie, one of the best-preserved Italian medieval burg), visiting a prestigious Barbaresco wine cellar with tasting.

    Lunch free and visit of Barbaresco medieval tower, with its panoramic terrace overlooking the gentle hills.

    Transfer for dinner in a characteristic restaurant and overnight stay.

    Back to the accommodation – The driver and the guide leave.

     

    Day 5 – Spumante Wine area

    Breakfast buffet. Meeting with the driver and the English-speaking guide and departure for a guided visit to Asti town centre.

    Free time for lunch and shopping.

    In the afternoon, departure to discover the Unesco Underground Cathedrals of Canelli, genuine masterpieces of engineering, picturesque, surreal setting where thousands of bottles are left to ferment and take on the typical aromas and flavours of Canelli’s wines and Spumante, in cells with exposed brick vaulted ceilings dating back to the early 1800s.

    Visit to a prestigious cellar producing Spumante sparkling wine with tasting.

    Transfer for dinner in a characteristic restaurant in Nizza Monferrato, in company of a Barbera wine producer who will introduce the local wine, its history and characteristic while savouring typical dishes.

    Back to the accommodation – The driver and the guide leave the guests.

     

    Day 6– Transfer to Ligurian Cinque Terre

    After the breakfast buffet and check-out, transfer to Liguria with private driver (about 2 hours).

    Check-in at the selected accommodation in the charming atmosphere of Genoa medieval center.

    Relax after your long trip.

    In the evening, dinner in a selected Italian restaurant. Overnight stay.

     

    Day 7 – Walking Tour of Genoa historical centre and food shops

    After breakfast, meeting with a local private tour guide at the accommodation.

    Amazing walking tour of the historical center of Genoa, discovering the most famous monuments of the town and its ancient food shops! Wandering through the “Carrugi” alleys is a unique experience to find the “real” Genoa essence. It is the largest medieval old town in Europe, with medieval alleyways and renaissance streets. The noble Rolli Palaces built by local aristocracy in the XV century is protected by UNESCO. The food shops of the historical center are ultra-centenarian: the old “friggitorie” serving friscieu (fried croquettes filled with herbs), farinata, fried fresh seafood eaten at the counter or to take away, the prestigious old pastry cafè where the famous composer Giuseppe Verdi loved to spend his time tasting the pastries and then, the “Pietro Romanengo fu Stefano” old shop.

    Possibility to taste some typical street food in Genoa old shops and to relax in an ancient Café.

    Dinner free in a suggested local restaurant. Overnight stay.

     

    Day 8 – Cinque Terre Tour and Wine

    After breakfast, meeting with a local private tour guide and departure via train to the famous Cinque Terre.

    Visit of the two iconic villages of Cinque Terre: Manarola and Vernazza, wandering among the tiny squares and side alleys of the villages, the famous terraced vineyards of Manarola, and reaching the picturesque Vernazza with a romantic walk till the capuchin cloister.

    End of the guided tour and free time for lunch.

    In the afternoon, easy walk to reach a local producer cultivating amazing vineyards protected by Unesco.

    After the visit, tasting of typical Cinque Terre wines, paired with some local traditional recipes (as salted anchovies, vegetable cake, focaccia, pesto sauce). The tasting takes place directly in the beautiful terraced garden of a local producer in Monterosso.

    Dinner free in a suggested local restaurant. Overnight stay.

     

    Day 9 – Tastes of Portofino: Pesto

    After breakfast, meeting with a local private tour guide and departure via train to reach Portofino for a tour of the picturesque villages in the heart of Portofino Natural Park: Santa Margherita and Portofino.

    The tour starts in the picturesque village of Santa Margherita Ligure, once called the “salotto” of the entire Gulf with its troump d’oeil painted palaces. Experience “la dolce vita” walking among charming villas surrounded by elegant gardens and parks. From Santa Margherita you will reach Portofino with a panoramic trip by public boat (weather and sea conditions permitting; otherwise by bus).

    Portofino is a small fishing village, which is now the center of élite tourism: it’s a tiny village with its spectacular castle, the church perched on the cliff and the luxury boutiques. Free time for lunch.

    The tour continues with an exclusive experience in Portofino, reaching a private terraced garden just above the village (10 minutes’ walk), from which an amazing view of the village and its bay can be admired. Meeting with a  local skillful woman who will teach you to prepare the famous presto sauce with mortar and pestle. At the end, you will taste the pesto and some traditional local specialties such as focaccia, paired with a glass of wine from Portofino.

    Day 10 – Arrivederci!

    After breakfast, check-out. Free time and departure – Arrivederci!
